The Inclusion Connect program supports people with disability to connect with local sport and active recreation clubs in a welcoming and supported environment, creating pathways for ongoing participation, social inclusion and community connection.
Nine participants with disability from the KiDS Plus service provider in Wangaratta, had the opportunity to participate in July’s Inclusion Connect experience. Led by Shihan Geoff Miller from Alpine Shinkyokushin Karate, the session provided participants with the opportunity to experience an introduction to karate techniques in a supportive and inclusive environment. Through blocking, punching and kicking drills, participants challenged themselves, developed new skills and experienced the enjoyment of being involved in a local community activity.
Reflecting on the session, Geoff described his participation in the program “a really good learning experience” and expressed his enthusiasm for exploring further opportunities to continue building on the partnership and creating pathways for ongoing participation of people with disability within his program offering.
“The Inclusion Connect program has delivered significant outcomes for our participants, building their confidence to try new experiences, increasing engagement in community activities, and supporting progress towards their individual goals. The enthusiasm and growth we’ve seen throughout the program has been incredibly encouraging.” Chris the Manager at KiDs Plus said.
A sincere thank you to KiDS Plus for their ongoing partnership, and to Geoff and Alpine Shinkyokushin Karate for providing a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants could build skills, confidence and meaningful community
