Progress in Action – Connecting Volunteers with Community Sport

The Sport Volunteer Matching Program helps clubs identify ways to encourage existing members, families and supporters to step forward and contribute, while also connecting new volunteers with roles that match their interests, skills and lifestyles.

Thanks to the support of Sport and Recreation Victoria, 21 clubs have been onboarded to the program. It has matched 33 volunteers with community sport roles and established partnerships with 8 referral agencies, alongside individuals who self-referred to the program.

One sport volunteer is helping to showcase the personalities and stories behind the players of Wangaratta Magpies by creating player profiles. Wodonga Bulldogs found the assistant coach it had been searching for, plus smiley canteen volunteers through the Wangaratta Netball Association bringing joy by serving hot food on chilly game mornings.

Additionally, Wangaratta Lawn Tennis Croquet and Pickleball Club, Wodonga Athletics Club and Wodonga Tennis Centre are currently being supported to identify volunteer needs and implement suitable practices to increase volunteers from within the club.
